Rahab. Just an harlot. but she was one of the five woman mentioned in Jesus lineage. What a line for a king. This is an amazing book.
"The Lord didn't save our people because we were worthy. look how our fathers and mothers turned away from God!....no we are not worthy. only the lord is righteous. no other but the Lord is worthy of praise." 91
"you must learn to be patient. God doesn't need our help." 62
"be careful not to add to what the Lord has said, Salmon. you must align yourself with the will of God-not the desires of your own heart." 61
I love how Francine Rivers makes a whole story from these woman who are only mentioned briefly in the bible and makes it into a whole book. it really makes you think more about these woman and what they might have gone through. who the hatred some of the jews may have felt towards Rahab. How it would feel to be in the city when the wall fell down. Jesus lineage sure is unique. It shows how God can use anyone who is willing, and who turns from their ways and serves God.
What a sad situation to be in. Dynah is a Christian girl, who is in college. She is engaged, and her future is at her finger tips, but one night on her walk home from work a guy rapes her. She becomes pregnant. She does not want to have an abortion, but she does not know what to do. Dynah's fiance is trying to pressure her to get an abortion. Their relationship becomes rocky after this tragedy. Ethan (Dynah's fiance) sees her as defiled now because she is no longer a virgin. Dynah breaks off the engagement. The Dean of the school forces her to quiet school, because he gives her the option of having an abortion, or telling the whole school that she was raped and is now with child, or leaving school. (because it is against the rules for unwed mothers to attend the school. also by her being pregnant the school would think that she went too far with Ethan and would soil his good name and reputation, because he is one of the leading students whom the dean is taking a special interest in and believes he will be a great preacher one day)
Dynah leaves school and is on her way home. When she get's home and tells her parents, her father is upset and insists on Dynah having an abortion. Her mother takes her to the clinic, but Dynah can not go through with it. Dynah finds out that both her mother and grandmother has abortions. Dynah is feeling pressured, so she runs away. She ends up having the baby.
This is an amazing story read it.
I pray for all of those that find themselves in a similar situation, and I pray that they would have courage and would not feel pressured into having an abortion. Be with these woman. I pray that if they need some one to talk to that they would feel free to talk to me. Amen
Francine Rivers at the end of the book wrote this. and this just touched me. We have to do something.
"A young girl in the full waiting room of the clinic, her heart hammering, her stomach so tense she felt sick. One girl sat crying silently while an older, narrow-eyed, tight-lipped woman sat beside her. A woman in her late thirties sat with her slender legs crossed reading Fortune. Another girl, in her early teens, in a pair of baggy black Levi’s and a scoop-necked white T-shirt sat forward, knees and toes together, beside her friend in a short black skirt and tight red sweater.
No one spoke. No one met the gaze of another. They stared down at their hands or a magazine or off into space.
The young girl closed her eyes tightly, praying for strength.
I AM HERE, BELOVED. I AM THE LORD YOUR GOD, WHO LOVES YOU.
The door opened, and a woman in white stood looking at her clipboard. “Number nine.”
The waiting room emptied by one.
The young girl hunched in her chair. Oh, God, oh, God, I’m so scared. I want to go home.
COME OUT FROM THEM, BELOVED, AND BE SEPARATE, AND I WILL LEAD YOU IN THE WAY EVERLASTING.
Shaking, she got up.
Her boyfriend clamped his hand around her wrist. “Where’re you going?” he said in a hushed, taut voice.
She leaned down and whispered. “I don’t want to do this.”
He pulled her down beside him again. “Do you think I do?”
“Then let’s leave.”
“And do what?” He leaned closer, speaking so only she could hear. “Look, this isn’t easy for me, either. Don’t make it any harder. We’ve been over this a hundred times. There’s nothing else we can do.”
She tried not to cry. Crying only upset him more. She didn’t want him to get mad at her. “I don’t think I can go through it.”
“You said your parents would disown you.”
THOUGH YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER FORSAKE YOU, I WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU.
“And what about school?”
“There must be another way.”
“What other way? You tell me what other way.”
She looked up at him pleadingly. “We could get married.”
“Yeah, right,” he said sotto voce. “And live on what? Love?”
“I’d work...”
“Give me a break. At that fast-food place? Making minimum wage? And what about after the baby comes? Kiss my future good-bye. I want to go to college. Remember?”
Her eyes burned with tears at his tone. He had been so sweet and tender before they had sex. After their first time, that was al he ever wanted. And now that she was pregnant, he was angry with her most of the time. It wasn’t all her fault she was in this condition. She’d only forgotten to take her pill that one day, and he’d never once taken precautions.
“I’m scared,” she said in a soft shaky voice.
TRUST ME. I AM YOUR ROCK AND YOUR FORTRESS. I AM YOUR DELIVERER, BELOVED. TAKE REFUGE IN ME, FOR I AM YOUR SHIELD AND THE HORN OF YOUR SALVATION. CSLL TO ME AND I WILL RESCUE YOU FROM YOUR ENEMIES. THE CORDS OF DEATH WILL NOT ENTANGLE YOU...
“I’m scared, too” he said, surprising her.
“I want to leave.”
He took her hand and held it tightly. She could feel the perspiration on his palms. “I’ve heard it’s not so bad,” he said bleakly.
SEEK ME, BELOVED, AND I WILL ANSWER YOU. I WILL DELIVER YOU. I WILL BE YOUR HIDING PLACE. I WILL PROTECT YOU AND SURROUND YOU WITH SONGS OF DELIVERANCE.
“It’s only suppose to take a few minutes. By tomorrow it’ll all be behind us.”
She looked at her boyfriend and saw how uncomfortable he was. He didn’t want to talk about it anymore. He just wanted to get it over and get out of here.
Oh, God, I don’t want to lose him.
I AM THE LORD YOUR GOD AND THERE IS NO OTHER.
Her heart jumped as the door opened again.
TURN TO ME IN YOUR HOUR OF NEED AND I WILL...
Her number was called.
...LOVE YOU WITH A LOVE THAT WILL LAST FOREVER.
She hesitated.
“Go,” her boyfriend said, looking at her imploringly.
DO NOT HIDE YOUR FACE FROM ME, BELOVED. I LOVE YOU WITH AN EVERLASTING LOVE. I WILL PROVIDE FOR YOU. HEED MY VOICE.
Her number was called again. She wanted to jump up and run screaming from the room.
CALL OUT TO ME AND I WILL BRING YOU UP OUT OF THIS PIT OF DESPAIR AND SET YOUR FEET UPON THE ROCK. I WILL PROTECT YOU. I WILL PROVIDE FOR YOU. OH, MY BELOVED CHILD, YOU ARE SO VERY PRECIOUS TO ME, SO PRECIOUS I DIED FOR YOU AND ROSE AGAIN THAT YOU MIGHT LIVE IN ME. TRUST ME. OH, MY BELOVED, TRUST ME.
Her boyfriend took her hand and stood. Heart hammering, she stood with him.
He didn’t take her out of the clinic. He handed her over to the woman in the doorway with the clipboard in her hand. The woman smiled and said everything would be all right. Letting go of her, the boy stepped back and turned away. As the girl went forward, she looked back and knew she was alone. When the door closed, death surrounded her.
And into the silence and separation that followed could be heard the weeping of God’s only begotten Son, the Atonement Child. " (Rivers 369-372)
I know understand why Audrey Hepburn is so loved in the movie industry. She was great. I would recommend this movie. Audrey plays Princess Ann. Ann just wants to get out of the routine. So she sneaks away and falls into the hands of the reporter Joe. Joe gives Ann a time of her life. Though he is secretly just using her to get his story. In the end they fall in love and Joe can't run the story. But he does get his interview. and she gets pictures. it is a great movie.
Talk about wanting to be someone else. Eve is invited in to meet her hero. Eve comes across as this real innocent girl who just wants to act. She becomes Margo's(her hero) assistant. She seems like a really devoted girl. Until she steps in and tries to take Margo's husband, and then she becomes Margo's understudy and tries to take margo's spot on stage. Everyone around Eve begins to see her schemes, but Eve becomes this big star and she wins an award, and her role on stage. in the end Eve gets everything she wants, and also another scheming 'eve. ' It's an interesting movie. Not one of my top 100 favorites. but is interesting none the least.
Man in the moon. What a great movie. It doesn't really turn out how you think. Dani has a major crush on the new yet old neighbor/family friend Court. But Court is in love with Dani's older sister Maureen. When Dani sneaks out one night to go swimming with Court her mother awakens and finds that Dani is gone. A storm has begun and she goes after Dani. Dani's mother trips on a root and the whole family is in an uproar because they are afraid that she might lose the baby. In the end the baby is alright, but when the family comes home with the baby, Dani finds out that Maureen was out with Court. Dani is upset and goes after Court. in the meantime Court falls off of the tractor and gets killed by the plow which shreds him pretty good. Dani finds Court's mom holding him. She tells Dani to go away. What a tragic thing. The man in the moon is because at the beginning Dani and Maureen are talking about how their mother use to tell them to tell their troubles to the man in the moon and he would sort them all out. Dani is wishing that she could be little again and talk to the man in the moon. great movie.
just watch it.
Wow so usually the movies/tv series in this case are different than the books, but boy am i shocked. this is like way different. the first one was just a little off, but this is way off base.
Toby dies. Aria's dad is still going out with Meredith, and he leaves Ella. and the four girls do not reunite. In fact Aria goes with Sean (Hannah's ex to Foxy), Aria thinks that Spencer is secretly A when she sees her in yoga class. This is an intense book. if you like the show, i would recommend reading the books. The books are different but very good. It's sad that the movies are never the same as the books. The books are always amazing so how come they have to change it in the movies? This would be just as suspenseful. well there would be a little less drama. but still. it's good.
A Far Off Place. This is a great movie. Reese does an excellent job. Nonnie lives in Africa. Harry and his father come to visit. Nonnie sneaks out of the house and Harry follows. The next morning Nonnie goes back to get something and sees that her parents as well as Harry's father are killed by the poachers. When Nonnie blows up the house, the poachers are after them. Harry, Nonnie and Xhabbo trek through Kalahari Desert 2000 Km to get to the nearest town to get the poachers stopped. As they cross the desert, Harry and Nonnie become closer and closer. This is a great movie. I like it.
I liked this movie. They use such bright colors. I don't understand why they think her face is funny. but she is unique. Jo is working in a bookstore, when Dick Avery marches in with his models to try and get the right backdrop. When Avery sees Jo in the backdrop of one of the pictures, he decides that Jo's face is the face he's been looking for. Avery convinces Jo to go to Paris for the photography shoot. In the end Jo and Avery fall in love. This is a great movie.I love how she falls in love with the photography. It is so funny. Audrey Hepburn does an amazing job in this movie. This is a great Classic. Watch it.
