Excerpt

A woman suffering from bleeding for twelve years receives news of hope.

Lydia slumped against her walking stick, the emerging heat draining her strength.

Elon flinched. He could not offer her assistance without becoming unclean. As if sensing why she traveled from her tent, he sprinted to a water jar and set it by her ram skin prison.

A tear slipped from her eye and graced her cheek. “You are too good to me, Elon.” And good for her. You should have abandoned me years ago.

Before she collapsed and embarrassed herself, and him, she grasped his basket and turned toward her tent. The rain had dampened the woven reeds, so the handle fit securely in her palm. If only her future were as secure.

“There is a man.” Elon’s words chased after her. “He lives with a fisherman. Near the lake.”

There was always a man who claimed he could help her. For a fee. The slashes and burns and bindings of the physicians had never healed her. Her health worsened. The horrors of what they had made her drink sickened her stomach. She had only received disappointment and pain.

Review

Forged in Firra is C.B. Sharp’s debut novel. This is YA Fantasy, so it did take me a little bit to get into this story. Like most stories in the fantasy genre, I was mostly lost for the first little bit. Once I could picture the world, I was all in. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

I loved that this was a sibling journey. The Oriel children: Brion, Caitlin, and Fallon live in this world where the immortal Ancients, which are animals, rule the Clay Borns (humans). The Ancients have kept the Clay Borns in an oppressive community. Where everyone must watch out for themselves and report others for survival. The Oriel siblings find themselves with their parents taken away. In a world that abandons orphans to the forest, they are left for dead, but they find themselves on a quest to free Tirra Nova from the Ancients. Secret tunnels, scrolls, talking to animals, stories become real, characters with a disability, this is an adventure worth taking.

C.B. Sharp did a great job using allegory throughout the journey. I loved the Christian elements.

Review

Grandpa’s Comrade is the first book I have read written by Kelsey Gjesdal. As a Christian YA book, it was a great read. It captured my attention and drew me in.

This story takes us on a journey to try to save a missing comrade in Korea. Grandma and Grandpa are taking care of Jess and Will. The teens go into Grandpa’s workspace and stumble upon a box that has elvish written all over it. Jess, the Lord of the Rings fanatic, is excited and goes to work translating it. They discover the meaning of the hidden message, and that is when Grandpa decides he must go to Korea to search for his missing comrade. Grandpa deals with PTSD and often has a hard time with things. Jess and Will also will not be left behind. So Grandpa, Grandma, and the teens end up on an adventure to Korea. Jess and Will want to help Grandpa so badly that they often find themselves in bad positions. Between secret tunnels, a missionary, PTSD, kidnapping, and more, this story was quite the adventure.

Welcome to the Blog Tour for Anna of Arimathea by Susanne Blumer, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

About the Book

Title: Anna of Arimathea
Series:
The Arimathea Chronicles #1
Author:
Susanne Blumer
Publisher:
Sutton Avenue Press
Release Date:
December 7, 2025
Genre:
Biblical Fiction

Some wounds are carried in silence. Some healings require more than medicine.

Eighteen-year-old Anna bears the marks of a childhood tragedy that left her motherless, scarred, and lame. Hidden within the household of her father, Joseph of Arimathea, a wealthy councilman of the Sanhedrin, her days are measured in herb gardens and healing tinctures, in the steady work of hands trained to help others, and in the quiet safety of a world made small.

Then Andrew of Bethsaida arrives at her father's gate with urgent business for Joseph and talk of a teacher who calls ordinary people to extraordinary purpose. A fisherman turned disciple, Andrew follows the rabbi Jesus with a conviction that unsettles every long-held expectation—including Anna's own.

When Andrew's kindness cracks open the door to a larger world, Anna faces an impossible choice: remain in the safety of her father's estate or risk everything for the possibility of healing, love, and a life she never dared imagine.

Set against the dusty roads and fishing villages of first-century Judea, where miracles unfold and mercy walks among the broken, Anna of Arimathea opens The Arimathea Chronicles—a richly imagined tale of faith, first love, and redemption in the footsteps of the Messiah.

Anna of Arimathea is perfect for readers who love:

Biblical and historical fiction with rich period detail
Redemptive love stories that explore the cost of faith
Immersive historical worlds
Characters who choose courage over comfort

Review

Anna of Arimathea is the first book I have read written by Susanne Blumer, and it was such a treat. This is the perfect biblical fiction story. Taking a look at what things might have been like being in the outer circle of Jesus inner circle.

Anna’s father is Joseph of Arimathea, who we encounter in the New Testament. Joseph is a member of the Sanhedrin, but also a follower of Christ. The story begins with an accident that leaves Anna’s mother dead and Anna with scars, a limp, and in pain. Joseph then takes Anna to their house and has her stay there while he does his Sanhedrin duties. Anna follows in her mother’s footsteps and is learning different remedies to heal people. When Andrew, the disciple, shows up at her doorstep.

This book brought the bible to life in a great way. I loved reading this beautifully crafted story. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Braving Fiery Waters by Sarah Hanks

Braving Fiery Waters by Sarah Hanks is the second book in the Time Sailors series. It can be read as a standalone, though I do plan on going back and reading book 1.

This was a fun read about time sailing, where there is a mailbox, and if you open the mailbox, there is a task for you to complete. You find yourself in the past, with the only way to communicate with the present is through the mailbox. Mariana is the widow and mother of two teenagers. She lost her husband recently and is having a hard time grieving the loss. Mariana is the one who finds herself in St. Louis during the great fire. She does not know what her purpose is, though she goes to work trying to help others. In the meantime, her teens, Aiden and Brinley, are left in the present day with Claire. Each character is going through something different. Learning to grieve, learning to lean into God and trust Him. I appreciate the historical aspect and learning about 1849, a part of history I did not know about.

Sarah Hanks did a great job of intertwining faith throughout the story.

On Living Stone by: Heather Kaufman

In the book, On Living Stone, Heather Kaufman takes us on a journey back to the days of Jesus. This book is a true masterpiece, bringing Jesus and his disciples to life in a unique way. This is the third book in the Women of the Way series. Each book can be read as a standalone, but you will not want to miss the other books. This book hooked me from the start, and I could not put it down.

The story starts with Salome as a young girl. Her spiritedness gets her into trouble a time or two. All Salome has is her Abba, who is always there to help and encourage her. When everyone around Salome begins to get married, it seems that Salome may never get the chance. Then Zebedee and Salome get married. Salome has conflict between her sisters-in-law, and we see the struggle and strain that it puts on family relationships. Zebedee and Salome grow their family and have James, and then John a few years later. As they are growing their family, the family business, the fisherman, is also growing. With that, they take the leap and move.

As the sons grow up, Jesus begins his ministry. James and John begin to spend more time with Jesus. Throughout the book, we get to see or hear about some of the different miracles Jesus performed. I loved seeing it through Salome’s eyes. Seeing the effects of following Jesus also would have impacted the family as well. This book was full of truth, emotions, and truly brought the bible to life from a mother’s point of view.

Heather Kaufman did a great job of intertwining faith throughout the whole novel. It was very evident that a lot of research and time went into writing this book. I appreciate the work. I appreciate the author’s note detailing the difference and the different ideas.

*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, which I received from the author. A positive review was not required. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

In Books & Battlefields by Heather Tabers

In Books & Battlefields is the third book I have read by Heather Tabers, and she has become an instant read for me. If you like Christian historical fiction with a sprinkle of suspense, this is the book for you. This book hooked me in from the start and kept me on the edge of my seat.

Isabella is from a well-off family, living in Colorado. During the Great War, there was a lot of need around the country. So, Isabella volunteers to go to Camp Sheridan, Alabama, to help as a librarian for the army.  This is where she waltzes right into none other than Chief Medical Officer Major Byron McDaniel, who is in charge of the hospital she is stationed at as a librarian. With his grumpy outside, we soon get to pull back the layers of Major Byron, find out he is a widower. Major Byron keeps finding himself drawn to Isabella. The more time they spend together, the deeper his feelings grow. Then Deputy Nathaniel, Isabella’s brother’s best friend, arrives on the scene. He has transferred from Colorado to Alabama with his eyes set on Isabella. Unfold the love triangle. Deputy Nathaniel and Major Byron find themselves fighting for Isabella’s affection.

Things around the camp seem to be out of place. With war going on, one can never be too careful. Major Byron believes the different accidents are not what they seem. Then, Isabella finds herself in the middle of uncovering a German spy ring using library books to send secret codes, when she is drugged and kidnapped. Nathaniel and Byron must put their differences aside to save Isabella.

Heather Tabers does a great job bringing history to life. I love all the extras she includes in her works, from curated playlists, coloring pages, historical articles, pictures, and character art. You can tell she did a lot of research to bring this book to life.

This second chance at love romance is perfect and sweet with kisses only.

Heather Tabers does a great job of intertwining faith throughout the book.

*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, which I received from the author. A positive review was not required. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

A young Swedish immigrant determined to survive.

A mountain guide haunted by his past.

In 1883, in the Pacific Northwest, their lives collide in a faith-filled historical romance of courage, forgiveness, and second chances.

Johanna Amalia Nilsdotter Oman has left everything she knows behind. By crossing an ocean and a continent, she now faces the two-hundred-mile journey up the Columbia River into Washington Territory. Her father purchased land near Lyle with dreams of building a sawmill, and Johanna is determined that nothing—not distance, danger, or loneliness—will stop her from reaching their new home.

John is a man running from everything. Haunted by shame and regret, he has chosen the wilderness as his grave, determined to vanish into the mountains and die alone.

But before he can disappear, he accepts one final job: guiding a Swedish settler named Nils Oman into the rugged foothills above the Columbia River. The promised twenty dollars will buy him freedom—or so he believes.

But God has other plans. When Johanna’s path collides with John’s, both must face the truth they’ve been running from. In the shadow of towering evergreens and the roar of the Columbia, they will discover that even in the darkest wilderness, God’s love brings redemption, healing, and the courage to begin again.

Review

A Father’s Dream is the first book I have read written by Heidi Ennis. This is a great Christian historical fiction with a Native American MMC and Swedish Immigrant FMC as they take on the wild west.

This book did take a little bit of work to get into. At times, I had to pause and come back to it. There were many layers to this book. Johanna goes through a lot to get to where she is, and her journey is not over yet. Fighting through the frontier to get to where her father dreamed of going. After the loss of her home, her entire family dead or gone, everything she knew, in a new country. With nothing left to lose, Johanna fights forward with her faith as the only thing she has left.

John has gone through his own struggles. He is half Native American and half white, w. Seeing all the things John went through and what it might have been like to live at that time in history. John struggles with being rejected by men and also by those in faith. How could the white man’s God have allowed such treatment of him and his people? There are a lot of hard topics in this story, and it was an interesting read.

The romance is kisses only, though there were a few scenes that were a little much for me on the side of desire/lust.

The faith aspect was intertwined throughout the story.

Review

Not Exactly Mr. Darcy by Carolyn Miller is such a sweet romance with all the cozy Pride and Prejudice and Jane Austen vibes. This story hooked me in from the start. This is the beginning of a series, and I look forward to reading more in this series.

Olivia Bennett is a teacher in Australia. Her contract does not get renewed, which ends up being perfect timing. Her grandma needs some help with recovery in England. So, Olivia goes to England to help her out. She finds herself in a small town that has the famous mansion from the movie Pride and Prejudice. The property needs some serious help. Olivia visits the location and meets Liam, who is caring for the landscaping of the house. He comes off a little grumpy, and as the story progresses, we find out why. Liam's identity is secret from Olivia, and she doesn’t fully know who Liam is until later on. As things begin to unfold, Olivia begins to help Hartbury Hall return to its former glory and reopen to the public. But it won’t all come together without the help of the community. This small town community has a lot of great characters.

This opposite-attract, forced proximity romance was cute and sweet with kisses only.

The faith element was intertwined throughout the story.

Bernadette by: Jennifer Lynn Cary

Do you love hidden identity, secret romance, and faith-filled novels? Then this is the book for you.

Bernadette is the first book I have read written by Jennifer Lynn Cary, and it was such a pleasure. This is book 8 of the Weather Girls Wedding Shoppe and Venue series. This series can be read as standalone books; they are set in the same small town of Kokomo, Indiana, in the 70s. Bernadette hooked me in from the start. Bernadette was a sweet and funny story, and I could not put it down. I will definitely be visiting Kokomo again in the next book.

Bernadette is a 30-year-old single woman, living with her father and stepmom. She works in her father’s garage fixing cars. When her stepmom comes up with the perfect idea for Bernadette to go on a ‘blind date’ to help her party planning business. This is when Bernadette finds out that it is none other than the movie star Garrett who is in town to film a movie. Garrett has a twin, Gabe, who plays his stunt double. For this blind date, Gabe goes in Garrette’s place. Bernie and Gabe end up hitting it off at the different promotional events they attend together. As their relationship grows, Gabe feels guilty for all the deception. How can they start a relationship when he is not being completely honest?

I loved seeing Bernadette grow as a character. She starts out as quite the tomboy. As the story progresses, and she needs to wear different outfits and makeup, Bernadette finds that those things aren’t entirely bad. I love watching her find herself and step out into her own light. Gabe is such a great guy. He has his own things to work through.

This secret identity, forced proximity romance is cute with kisses only. Also, a first kiss for Bernadette.     Jennifer Lynn Cary did a great job of intertwining faith in this story.

Kensington Smith, a high school English teacher fueled by coffee and plaid, looks for the good in people. The hot-but-vexing P.E. teacher and football coach, who is unfortunately her best friend’s older brother, is the exception. When he’s tapped to assist her with the annual Winter Solstice Dance, he rewrites Kensie’s long-held lesson plans of loathing as he reveals the man behind the flirtatious façade.

Nicolas Lancaster has a little thing for the pretentious, people-pleasing English teacher of Crescent Cove High School… a thing where he revels in riling her up. But as his proclivities shift and he chases the heart of the woman he’s taught to despise him, Nick begins to understand the pain behind the practiced smile she dons—a mirror that reflects his own inner demons.

Two hearts. Two histories.

One source of Hope.

Chasing Kensie is a Christian contemporary romance sparkling with Alaskan winters, unknown feelings, and a love that will light up the darkest of nights.

Review

Chasing Kensie is the second book I have read written by Drew Taylor, and she is becoming an instant read for me. This book hooked me from the very start with all the flirty banter.

Kensington moved to Alaska to teach at a Christian High School for a fresh start. Upon arrival, she is trying to decorate her new room and sends an email to Nicolas Lancaster to see if he wants any of the items he left behind. With an encounter gone wrong, here begins their enemy’s relationship. As the years pass and Kensie becomes friends with Nick’s sister, Nick cannot understand why he and Kensie seem to have a heated relationship. As they find themselves in close proximity, they start to work through these issues and find the root of the problem. As they become friends, they also develop feelings for one another.

Kensie's character development was great. There is a lot to uncover and unpack. With childhood trauma hidden deep within that comes to light, her people-pleasing actions make sense. Nick also has a lot of layers to pull back. I loved seeing them both progress and overcome their past.

I loved that we got to encounter Esme and Noah. I love it when books intertwine in that way.

This enemies-to-more romance was perfect with kisses only and lots of flirty banter, with a dose of desire. Drew Taylor did a great job of intertwining faith throughout. I loved the realness and the struggle, but also the reminder of Christ and who we are in Him.

When I’m With You by Rachel Hauck

When I’m With You by Rachel Hauck is the perfect small-town romance where everyone knows everyone else and everything about you. This small town sucked me in from the start, and all the characters had my heart.

Elizabeth finds herself back in Hearts Bend after being wait-listed to Wharton’s MBA program. She is unsure of what the future might hold, especially after experiencing an autoimmune response, which sidelined her plans.

Being in Hearts Bend, where the whole town knows you and your family, is a hard thing for Elizabeth to get used to. She grew up learning not to rely on anyone else, so when she finds herself in Hearts Bend living with her grandparents and working for the family business, things change. Getting to see Ryder, her childhood friend, and spending time together brings them closer together. Reigniting the flame Ryder has held for Elizabeth. Elizabeth has her heart set on her plan, so there is no room for Ryder in it.

This friends-to-more romance was sweet with kisses only.

Rachel Hauck does a great job of intertwining faith throughout and with the journey back to faith, learning that it’s ok to ask for help and lean into God and His plans for your life.

Beyond Her Calling by Kellyn Roth

Beyond Her Calling is the fourth book in The Chronicles of Alice and Ivy series by Kellyn Roth, and each book has sucked me into the story. At the beginning, I didn’t know how I would feel about each story focusing on a different sister. The farther I get into the series, the more I enjoy it. This story is back on Ivy, and so much has happened since the last installment of Ivy’s story. She does appear in the previous story, but we get to see her thoughts in this story.

Ivy is such a unique character. In a time in history when mental health was quite the mystery. This story is such a fun look into how things might have been, but from the perspective of Ivy. She has grown so much and is learning to work through things that she struggled with as a young girl.

In this book, Ivy returns to the McCale House to visit. Jordy is returning to Scotland, and Violet is going to her Aunt Daphne’s house, so Ivy joins them on the journey. While there, she is helping Jordy get his doctor practice started in the town. While in town, Ivy becomes friends with Ena, and she becomes like a second/third mother to her. As Ivy is helping Jordy, they both realize they have feelings for each other. Watching it all unfold was so enjoyable. I loved that Ivy finally found love.

I had the pleasure of listening to the audio version of this book, read by Alexandra Ralph. She did a great job bringing this story to life. I appreciate that this series is read by the same narrator. If there had been a change in narrator, it would have changed things a little bit.

Kellyn Roth does a great job of intertwining faith throughout. I loved the redemption and reminder that God can forgive us of our sins.

The romance was sweet with kisses only.
