Pepper Basham has become an instant read for me, and Sense and Suitability did not disappoint. If you love Regency-era books and rom-coms, this is the book for you. It is a nod to Sense and Sensibility, which made it such a joy to read.
Emmeline is such a fun, loving character with a big heart. She is secretly an author of Gothic novels. Which could ruin her if her secret comes out. Simon is the gentleman who got away and disappeared, but has now returned for the social season. Little does society know, but Simon has been left with an estate in shambles, with no money to take care of it. Simon has younger siblings whom he is in charge of now that his parents have died. When Emmeline comes across Simon’s sister stealing chickens (this scene is hilarious), she sees that there might be more to Simon and why he vanished. When Emmeline overhears a conversation, she comes up with a plan to help save the Reeves family.
This second-chance romance was perfect, clean, and a kisses-only romance. Pepper Basham loves to write swoony, worthy kisses, so just a heads up for those who do not prefer detailed swoony kisses.
